Vasectomy on Polish Television

Vasectomy in the world and in Poland. The link above to the Pytanie na Śniadanie website presents the statements of two doctors: Douglas Stein – a world-renowned American surgeon and urologist, and Robert Kulik – a Polish doctor working day to day in gynaecology and andrology. Their statements are devoted to vasectomy in the world and in Poland.

Since Dr Stein was in Poland for only 4 days and could not appear in the TV studio “live” on the day of broadcast, the interview with him was recorded a few days earlier at Dr Kulik’s practice at ZdrOva in Warsaw.

Dr Douglas Stein performs vasectomies in Tampa, Florida, and travels all over the world popularising this method of contraception. Especially in Third World countries struggling with overpopulation, and also in countries where the method is unpopular, such as Poland. Dr Stein is a co-founder, funder and board member of World Vasectomy Day, and a funder and board member of the charity No Scalpel Vasectomy International.

In Poland we have no overpopulation problem – but the need for male contraception is enormous. Many women do not tolerate the classic methods of contraception, such as hormonal pills or the intrauterine device (the so-called coil). Many people do not like or do not trust condoms – so vasectomy, a permanent form of male contraception, may be the way out. Especially for couples with large families who already have all the children they want.

Vasectomy is the interruption of the continuity (“blocking”) of the vas deferens (the tubes that carry sperm out). The procedure is minimally invasive and can be performed under local anaesthesia in an office setting (it does not require an operating theatre).
